In January 2010, a year and a half before the social protest began, the chain's two founders, Arik Shemesh and Sharon Hassid Yeshurun, determined that there was a real need for quality fast food at a fair price. They noticed that the pizzeria segment is roughly divided into two parts: expensive pizza, which is perceived as high quality, and cheap pizza, which is perceived as low quality.
They believed that it could be done differently...that the beloved Italian dish could be offered to the general public at a reasonable price, with uncompromising and superior quality along with an elegant degree of kosher.
The project was launched and the first branch was opened in Bnei Brak.
In 2013, as part of the chain's vision, Shemesh Pizza joined the Terra Dairy quality revolution and today uses 100% preservative-free Noam cheese and dough in 100% of its branches.
Like most important discoveries in history made by chance, the founders here discovered that intuition combined with their dream created a winning formula for making the highest quality pizza at the fairest price and strictly kosher. Other entrepreneurs realized that something good was happening at the tiny new pizzeria and wanted to join in the success... Today, the Shemesh Pizza chain has more than 60 thriving franchise branches from Kiryat Shmona in the north to Eilat in the south.
