Hofit beach in Ashkelon

 4.5
Ashkelon - אשקלון - Ашкелон, Arye Tagar St 1

If you’re looking for a break from the crowded, loud city beaches, Hofit Beach in the northern part of Ashkelon (near Be’er Ganim) is the ultimate local secret. It’s what we call a "wild" beach—meaning it’s wide, open, and mostly untouched by massive commercial buildings. If you're the kind of person who just wants to hear the waves and find a quiet corner to plant your chair without being shoulder-to-shoulder with strangers, this is your spot.

The sand here is super soft and full of beautiful shells, which makes it a favorite for families with kids who love to explore or for anyone who enjoys a long, peaceful walk. One thing that really sets Hofit apart is the elevated view from the cliffs before you head down to the water; the sunsets from up there are easily some of the best in the country. It’s a bit of a trek from the parking area to the shoreline, so definitely bring a wagon if you’re hauling a lot of gear, but the privacy you get in return is totally worth the extra steps.

Because it’s a natural, unorganized beach, there are no lifeguards on duty, so it’s more of a place for dipping your feet, sunbathing, and relaxing rather than deep-sea swimming. You won't find rows of expensive restaurants right on the sand either, which is exactly why the locals love it. It feels like a getaway. There are trash bins along the path to keep things clean, but you’ll want to pack your own snacks, plenty of water, and some shade, as the natural dunes don't offer much cover.

Good to Know

Since it's an open coastal area, there aren't "gates" that close, but for safety and local regulations, here’s the typical vibe:

Opening Hours: Officially accessible 24/7, but it's best enjoyed from sunrise to sunset.

Facilities: Limited. There is a small parking lot nearby (usually free), but no toilets or showers on the actual beach.

Pro Tip: It’s a dog-friendly spot, so feel free to bring your pup along for a run on the sand!

Hofit Beach is all about the simple things: the wind, the salt, and enough space to actually breathe. It’s the perfect antidote to a long week and a great reminder of why we love living on the coast.

The beach is nice, there are a few things to consider going there:
1. No life guard.
2. Fire is not allowed (most of the people are having camp fire/BBQ, knowing thatat some point a beach inspector might come and tell them to kill it...)
4. There is some distance from the parking spot to the beach.
5. Many people come to have parties over there...we found a quieter spot but it took some more walking with all the equipment.

This beach is a real discovery for us. There are many shells and pebbles in which sea inhabitants live. The coastline is not for swimming. We usually just sunbathe and get our feet wet on the beach.
